выдающийся?Why this museumOne of the largest open-air museums in Europe: 300 buildings brought from across the country before wooden architecture disappeared. Skansens exist everywhere; Ukrainian material of this completeness exists only here.
Wooden churches of the 18th century, the windmills of Polissia and the Dnieper region, cottages with their original furnishings. The grounds are divided by region — the Carpathians, Poltava, Podillia, Polissia, the South.

Walk at least two of the regions: Polissia with its windmills and the Dnieper region with its 18th-century wooden churches. Go inside the cottages — the furnishings are original.

Box office until 17:00. Closed Wednesdays. An open-air museum: in the rain there is nothing to see, so plan by the weather.
Tickets
Full ticket 200 UAH; schoolchildren, students, pensioners and people with disabilities of groups II and III 100 UAH. Free entry to the grounds on the second Saturday of the month.
When to go
Dry weather only, and not in winter. Closed Wednesdays. 133 hectares: bring water.
With children
An open-air museum of cottages, windmills and space: the best place on our list for small children.
Step-free access
Unpaved paths, sloping in places; passable by wheelchair in dry weather, not after rain.
The Kyiv metro is barely adapted for wheelchairs. We have not checked access during martial law.
значительный?Why this museumThe house described in The White Guard, and a device invented here: the Bulgakovs’ real things stand among white replicas, so the real is separated from the invented physically. The device is museologically unique and worth the trip on its own.

The only Bulgakov museum in Kyiv, opened in 1989 in the house where the writer lived in 1906–1919 and which appears in The White Guard as the Turbins’ house. Founded by Anatoly Konchakovsky.

значительный?Why this museumA museum of a single catastrophe built as a statement: the signposts of abandoned villages under the ceiling do what no statistics can. On its subject it is the principal collection in the world.

A branch of the Museum of the History of Kyiv, opened in 2009 for the writer’s 150th anniversary. Sholem Aleichem wrote in Yiddish; his books are translated into more than sixty languages.
Good to know. The old address, Krasnoarmeyskaya 5, changed when the street took back its historic name of Velyka Vasylkivska.

для увлечённых?Why this museumThe house of the first private pharmacy in Kyiv, 18th century, where the display rests not on vitrines but on restored spaces — an alchemist’s cellar and a healer’s hut. For the history of pharmacy the format is rare.
Opened in 1986 in the house where the first private pharmacy in Kyiv, run by Johann Heiter, worked in the 18th century. Over two thousand items on the history of Ukrainian pharmacy.

узкий интерес?Why this museumA curiosity, but an honest one: a private single-subject museum in the casemates of a 19th-century fortress. Go for the tower and for the conversation with the owners, not for the subject.
